Sitting in the theater, the delicious smell of popcorn swirls thru the air. The light crunching of those irresistible fluffy white kernels of yummy goodness can be heard as the lights dim and the screen opens.

The camera rolls and movie begins.. ACTION.

Movies... We are addicted to the images. Those that cry to touch us....Those that bring us tears of laughter and those memorable images that will be etched into our mind, heart and soul.

Today, I have been busy creating new line art for my digital stamps, that will be available only at the Scrapbook Stamp Society. They will capture my version of some of my favorite moments from the movies. Enjoy the sneak peek of my Lil Starlet Ragamuffins.

Rain.

Woke up to the sound of rain on my window sills today.... it's such a soft pitter pat. Whenever it rains I feel free... free as bird, soaring and enjoying the fresh clean air.

When I was little, and even sometimes now, I loved taking a stroll in the rain. Looking up at the grey clouds, I'd open my mouth to catch the rain, enjoying the rain drops dance on my lips.

Today, though with temperatures a bit on the chilly side, I'm enjoying the rain from my art studio's window while sketching. The rain is my inspirational music for the day. Its hypnotic to my ears.. allowing me to drift further into my own creative fantasy world.

Enjoy your day everyone and enjoy nature's gifts.... if only for a moment.

Cafe Latte....

On this snowy blustery Friday, I am sitting at my desk .. enjoying a delicious gingerbread latte. I so love gingerbread....there is just something about it that gives me that warm cozy feeling, which I am sure you know what I mean.

I have been hard at work over the past couple of weeks, creating new images for my digi stamps along with a couple of new paintings. I so love creating and painting.... I am the happiest when doing so. It's my own way of escaping the realities of the world and enter my lil fantasy realm... a place where my creations spring to life and my dreams become reality.

With that being said I would love to introduce to you one of my latest delightful lil creations. Here is Reginold, a lil creepie cutie who just wants Somebody To Wuv! Isn't he adorable????

As for some other artwork..... Start of a GREAT YEAR!

Just a few days ago 2011 passed and we all ushered in a New Year. Even though 2011 was a great year for me..... 2012 is already promising to be a sensational year. So many rewarding opportunities are at my fingertips and my personal 2012 goals are to accomplish each one... one step at a time... and love every minute it.

With that being said..... I have been hard at work on a a couple of NEW and EXCITING TOP SECRET PROJECTS that I can't wait to share with you. I do know that   you are going to LOVE them!

Hello everyone!

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!

Yesterday was wonderful....enjoyed my new Xbox 360 with kinect! I am so addicted to the Skylander game(wink) and I am in LOVE with my BIG KICK machine. Santa was very good to me this year:)

Anyway... today it's back to business.. have a ton of things to accomplish this week, from my to do list.... office work, reorganizing my studio (yikes..lol), ordering supplies, creating more linear illustrations for my digi stamps, working on 2 exciting new projects and hopefully get to paint sometime!

Family and Friends... Tis The Season

Hi friends!

Holidays are my favorite time of year.. when family and friends gather to celebrate. I have been busy the past couple of weeks.... spending time with loved ones... celebrating birthdays, Christmas parties, christmas shopping and baking. Tis the season .. filled with love!

Hello, friends!

I haven't been on here the last few days because I have had so much going on this week!
Wrapping Christmas presents and stuffing stockings, for Project Someone Cares, for the children at Michigan Children's Home, sending orders, working on new projects, painting, creating greeting cards for a Christmas card swap, present shopping and baking cookies and making candies....just to name a few. Whew! Been so busy!......

But all of it has been fun and exciting, sooooooo loving it:).

Managed to get the Christmas tree up today, I so love the smell.... and my two lil furballs are loving it as well.

It's their favorite playing area this time of the year. They love hiding their toys and treats amongst the packages and tree skirt.

Tonight..... I think, might be the perfect night to decorate it while watching one of my favorite Christmas movies...... National Lampoons Christmas Vacation!

Happy Saturday!

3 more days till Halloween! Yayyyy.. my most favorite time of the year (hehe) I love everything about it, bobbing for apples, pumpkin carving, speaking of that I have a 190lb pumpkin I need to carve still, trick or treating and all the lil ghost and goblins that will wander the streets on all Hallow's eve. What's not to love right?

Good Afternoon everyone!

Sorry I have not been bloggin here lately... been so very busy with paintings and project design work for my Susie Collection! Susie's World is growing by the leaps and bounds and I am so very very excited about that.

I wanted to share with everyone my latest original addition to my Susie World Collection. It's Moon! She is just too cute in her hippies outfit! She is sooooo Groovy!

This was a fun lil paintings I created using copic markers! I love the feel and the vivid colors of the copics and it's a refreshing change of pace from acrylic paints. I always love to experiement with other mediums.

I am going to head back into the studio now and put the finishing touches on my latest painting.

Inspiration.....

A funny lil story.....

While at my easel today, my girlfriend calls..... to catch me up on all the juicy weekend gossip. While chatting.... she asks me.... " What was that scream?" I laugh and say just a movie I am listening to while painting. She laughs backs and says "Oh no not another one of YOUR movie choices?"

My reply.... "My movie choices (laughing) My movies are not bad?" She inquired "So what block buster is it this time?"

"Black X-mas".... (Giggling)

She replies... " Oh yes, the slash'em up horror movie..... GREAT CHOICE!!!! What another academy award winner!

My response..." Ok so it's not an academy award winner( that is for sure) however it is inspirational!"

"Inspirational????"

"Of course...... I needed to be in a different mindset for painting today.. then the norm."

She replied... " The norm, there is NO norm in your mind. You so need help!" LOL

I have to agree with her on that one there is no norm for me.... but I am an artist! Artists are not "normal" anyway. LOL

I am asked quite often as to what inspires me.... my answer....
Anything really. From my dreams or nightmares, a song or a b rated movie ( ok maybe Black Xmas is more like a d rated movie), a bird to rain gently falling on my rooftop..... the world is my inspiration.

Siren Songs.....my New Painting

Hi everyone!
Hope you are all having a great weekend!
Today, I have a new painting to share with you... . Introducing my original acrylic painting titled SIREN SONGS! Measuring 12" x 24", I created this work of art on a 3/4" thick cradled wood panel for the upcoming issue of the Scarlet Literary Magazine. I was thrilled to have been asked to create the cover art... and am super pleased with the end results of my piece.
Normally I am a very vivid and colorful painter but I took a different approach on this serene yet haunting piece.
A beautiful and elegant siren playing her nautilus shelled lyre lures in a ship and passengers from the fog to their death.

I am currently working on another cover art for this magazine.... this time the piece will be more hauntingly dark and mysterious... with the theme being Odes To The Moon. I can't wait to share with you the final piece.

Josie ...Ladybug Fae

She is sooooo ADORABLE! I created this precious 9 x 12" mixed media painting using watercolors, acrylics and a touch of sparkling fairy dust on a 3/4" thick cradled wood panel. This cutie is ready to hang.. no frame is needed. I painted the edges baby blue which matches the painting perfectly.

About the Painting/Inspiration

My best friend's mom, Jo, was the inspiration behind this piece. Her husband used to call her Joise.. his lil lady bug. I have been wanting to create a painting featuring lil Josie and well here she is. I do belive it honors her quite nicely. SHe is the nicest lil lady you will every meet and and so is this lil fairy.

After the painting was completed I added a touch a sparkly glitter ..aka fairy dust on the lady bug's wings, Joise's lil wings and just a touch in her big blue green eyes. It just added the right touch of pizazz to this piece.

This precious painting has been signed and dated by myself, fantasy and fairy artist, Heather Valentin. A COA will be included with this painting. The watermark seen in the picture will not appear on the actualy painting itself. This painting is just precious in real life, more so than what the picture portrays. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for viewing my original work of art and possibly adding precious lil Josie to your art collection.

The Enchanting Art of Karen Talnagi

Mystical, whimsical and enchanting are words that come to mind when describing Karen Talnagi's Art... SEEING ANGELS.

Before I talk more about her creations... Here is Karen's Bio-

I have been surrounded by art my entire life, my grandfather was a professional artist. Most of my mothers family were artists, but my love of fantasy art was discouraged by the adults around me. Even as an art major in college I was pushed toward the more conventional graphic arts work. I had always had these little creatures and characters running around in my head, even as a child. Once marriage and kids came along it was very hard to find the time or the medium to express all these wonderful little elementals properly. Now that all the kids are in school full time and the wonderful world of polymer clay has found it's way into my life they are all scrambling to be brought to life.
Since I started sculpting a year ago I have been very fortunate, selling to collectors all over the world. I feel so lucky to finally be able to do what I was meant to do all along.

Her scupltures are unique and just simply adorable to say the least. Each has their own persoanlity and that certain magical twinkle in their eyes ... that just make you fall in love with them!

I highly recommend you take a moment out of your day and visit Karen's SEEING ANGELS. You will be delighted you did.

Ah A Perfect Day...

It's Sunday.... the sun is shining, the sky is such a beautiful blue and not a cloud in the sky and everything is working out beautifully today, Atleast for now anyway..knock on wood!

Compared to yesterday.. I'll take a day like today any day! No computer malfunctions, no printer errors, no jewelry making beads spilling, no paint spills. It's perfect!

I even have some good news to share with everyone today!

I am NOW offering cross stitch charts featuring my paintings! I am sooooo very excited about this opportunity. All my charts are to be used with Aida Cloth and have a 25 thread count. Thoughts of a Traditional Artist

Lately I have been doing alot of thinking in regards to traditional painting. Traditional painting, what is that you may ask? Not an uncommon question anymore...with the digital age upon us, lol. It's when an artist sits down in front of a canvas and actually hand paints a painting using the good old fashion tools of the trade~ paint brushes, acrylic paints, oil paints etc.
An artist who uses these old tools isn't afraid to get involved in or shall we say messy with paint. A true artist emerges themselves into their own world... enjoying the feel of the paint, swirling it to and fro with brushes or even their fingers over a canvas, laboring for hours at a time, creating a beautiful masterpiece. This "OLD STYLE" of painting seems to be dying to the age of technology. It's truly sad to say the least.

With such advancements in the digital world more and more artists are turning to their computers and fancy programs to create paintings. Yes, I said to create paintings!
Digital Painting is an emerging art form in which traditional painting techniques such as watercolor, oils, impasto, etc. are applied using digital tools by means of a computer, a digitizing tablet, stylus, and painting software.

To create a painting digitally one would start with a digital photo, or scan a film photo. Then would hand brush and blend the pixels using a digital paintbrush stylus.With these programs total control over color and light is a breeze, and it allows the artist to bring out the emotional expressiveness of the image. When the digital painting is complete, the artist transfers the image to fine artist canvas...such as masonite,linen stretched canvas material, using rich UV archival pigments and a state of art large-format printer. The result is a REPRODUCTION of a painting.
Let me say right now.... I am NOT against those who chose to paint via this method. Painting Digitally is an art form... it takes skill and talent to create a masterpiece, just like a traditional painter..such as myself.

What concerns me, is that there are people, ARTISTS, who call themselves traditional artists who don't use true acrylic paints, oil paints and actual hand held brushes to create their paintings....they lie to their fans and potential clients by saying that what they have created digitally and REPRODUCED is a say traditional acrylic or oil painting.

Fans and potential clients need to be aware of the difference between traditional paintings verus digital and reproduced one.

First of all, a real easy way to tell if its tradional style is hold the painting at an angle and look at it carefully.. can you see raised paint left by strokes? Next... Feel the painting you should be able to feel the artists brush strokes. A reproduction will not have this feel and look, with the exception of the print being hand embellished. If that is the case, brush strokes here and there like at highlights, etc. and the artist's signature should show raised paint or be felt. Hand embellishing a print requires minimal brush stokes. If a painting is a true traditional painting, the entire painting will have a feel and shall we say non uniformed strokes to it.
Also many a times, you can see a dot matrix pattern, if you look at the surface under magnification. This is the same pattern you will find on magazine or book images, typical of photo mechanical reproductions. You will definately not find that pattern on a true traditional painting. Also another sure sign that it is a reproduction is when these artists say they have to put the final touches on there work by scanning. SCANNING is not in a traditional artist's vocabulary .

For me, as a traditional artist this is soooooo upsetting and frustrating!!! It's a shame that these artist's have to mislead their fans in such a fashion.... and why I ask? In my mind they do it to appear better then they are creative wise and most people know that by saying it's a traditional ORIGINAL painting they can sell the painting for much more than any reproduction.

Mind you, the above is just my thoughts and opinions..... and it's something I just had to get off my chest!

Thoughts about Paintings

I frequently hear about artists who brag about the ability to create a painting in a short period of time.. which can be done, which I can do too. But I find personally that preparation, love, care, thought and even research in a work of art is needed... in most cases to create a great painting. However, this time must be tempered with the creative spontaneity ...so that paintings have a free loving flow. I for one LOVE taking my time and immersing myself into my paintings. So I ask everyone what do you look for in a painting?

My Works in Progress

Often I get asked.... what paintings are you currently working on? Here recently I have had a lot of inquiries as to what will be the next painting in my Masquerades of Thy Night Series and will there be anymore Alice in Wonderland Paintings. So to answer these questions I thought I would share some of my paintings in progress and what lies ahead.
First... I am currently working on 3 paintings. The first is the next installment to my Masquerade Series. It's featuring a woman masked in the physicians mask.. the Medicao Della Peste. My 2nd painting is a dark piece featuring a naked, masked, winged woman with tribal tattoos/markings, possibly shackled... not sure yet. She's squatting down before a black swan. What's this painting portraying? In my eyes... the tattoos are the marking of what she longs to become. Her wings are there for her to be able to finally fly and become what she so longs to be. The third painting that I am working on is my version of the Mad Hatter Tea Party.
You are probably wondering why I work on more than one painting at a time.
I paint according to my mood for the day and which canvas is craving for my attention. I paint how I feel.
When I step across the threshold of my studio I immediately know which painting I will work on. I grab my ipod, put on my head phones, select a song, add paint to my palette and get lost in my own world.

The thoughts of black

Did you know that black is the MOST misunderstood color.

However, black is NOT a color, or is it? Did you know that if you combine all three primary colors....red, yellow and blue...using a liquid paint or you even food coloring. You won't get a jet black, but the point will be clear. The history of black pigments includes charcoal, iron metals, and other chemicals as the source of black paints. So if someone argues with you that black is the absense of color, you can reply "what is in a tube of black paint?” However, you must add the fact that black is a color when you are referring to the color of pigments and the coloring agents of tangible objects.

Interesting I do say!

When people speak of opposites, it is usually in terms of black and white. Black, and its opposite white, represent polarities. Black absorbs all aspects of light. While white reveals, black conceals. It has come to mean hidden, fearful or bad experience. It is linked to the unknown or the unseen.

In times of fear and uncertainty black contains the energy of the threatening unknown. In a positive state, black is seen as a restful emptiness into which anything may emerge and disappear once again. It is also mysterious... providing a sense of potential and possibility.

In fashion....a black tie dinner is very formal and elegant. Women can wear that "must have little black dress" to the black tie dinner. Yet the bad guys wear black hats. Black symbolizes death in some cultures. Native Americans thought black was good because it was the color of soil, which gives life.

What about black in paintings?

Black could be shadows, dark haunting images, the unknown, negative space.... or maybe just a black canvas.

Black is seen differently through each individuals eyes. That is the beauty about this misunderstood color. It's becomes what you want it to be.

For me as an artist black is most intriquing to me for the reason it is seen differently through each individual's eyes.

The Beginning

With a new year upon us I thought it would be most appropriate to start of 2010 with a new painting series... titled MASQUERADES OF THY NIGHT.

I have been obsessed with masquerades for a long time.....the masks so dark and mysterious... a way to hide and keep secrets. So I decided it was time to create thsi series.

A DAY IN THE WAKING WORLD is my first installment to this gothic series.

"Go beyond their eyes,

Walk amongst their broken souls,

Surrender to their twisted minds,

And that is where you will discover a little piece of yourself."

I took alot of time with the composition and details of this piece. I LOVE this painting.. it's dark and captivating.
